Legacy System Modernization

Large enterprises often run mission-critical applications and workloads that are older and difficult to maintain and expensive to operate. Today the mindset has changed, and they want to migrate to cloud with newer technologies to gain higher scalability, agility, and cost benefits. In this journey, data becomes a key driver to the success of the business. Monolithic code with tightly coupled business logic along with balancing cost, risk, and value pose serious challenges in modernizing these systems. These large old applications/systems are generally critical to the business as they drive revenue and support customer needs. But as the architecture for these applications becomes obsolete, it can impede business growth. Given the large footprint on the IT landscape and the variety of technologies, databases, and supporting software involved, one size fits all solutions will never succeed. Enterprises look forward to modernizing these with a customized approach, that reduces the TCO (Total cost of ownership), unlocks insights from the hidden data, and increases system agility while delivering consistent business value.

Most organizations lack detailed documentation of the systems/applications and their batch jobs. Further, the knowledge is limited to only the subject matter experts (SME), who are part of the shrinking talent pool. NLB uses the knowledge engineering approach and minimizes the dependency of the SME.
Lack of a clear business plan. Footprint based on large customers has Million(s) lines of code (MLOC). For large portfolios, a robust framework with the right talent is required to determine what to contain/maintain, what to renew and what to migrate. NLB can create the business, technology that will enable the roadmap to deliver continuous business value.
Migration risk. Depending on the migration approach, old and new systems may have to be kept in a hybrid cloud architecture to ensure the end-to-end processes are not broken. Additionally, a large amount of data needs to be cleansed, transformed, and migrated in a secure manner. NLB can help in mitigating the risk by using the right tool, testing, and minimizing the migration with cost-effective & right talent pool.
Delayed migration. The longer it will take to migrate and sync the old and the new systems, greater complexity, and risk will emerge. NLB recommends the people, process, and technology-based approach where fewer SMEs leverage the migration process where the journey is smooth to the targeted state.
Low expertise. While enterprises may have deep expertise in their legacy systems but may not be experienced in the migration of those workloads NLB approaches and leverages its experiences, and best practices, mitigating risk engaging the right talent for the right work.
Fear of change. Migration and transformation exercises require strong change management as their internal team maybe only involved in running their current business and serving customers and not all migration maybe technology related. NLB allows customers to focus on their core business activities. NLB team performs the business assessment while planning and allows the customer to understand the change management requirements. NLB also engages all the right resources to do all the heavy lifting of the migration.
Low or inadequate funding of the migration journey. NLB helps develop the business case, providing the right sourcing (Onshore, nearshore and offshore) engagement models to offset the cost and provide the best talent pool.
